Circles of Strength
Bereavement Support Groups
These year-round community-based groups were created by our organization’s founder, Dr. Heather Mohan, in 1998 on the North Shore of Vancouver, British Columbia, and have since been offered all across Canada. Some of our dedicated volunteers have been assisting with these groups since they first began!
In response to the global pandemic, the Society has postponed all of the physical groups until further notice. We now offer virtual alternatives – called “Connections” – that are available for particpants from all regions across Canada.
This program provides ongoing opportunities for those who are bereaved to connect, to share their experiences in a supportive environment and to learn strategies that can assist them in coping with their grief. All groups are facilitated by experienced therapists who are often assisted by trained volunteers. While the program is family-centred in philosophy, each meeting includes a breakout time with separate talking circles and expressive arts therapy activities for adults, youth and children.
Pre-registration is required and all new applicants must participate in a phone interview with a group facilitator before attending their first session. For further information on specific group meeting dates in your region, or for help with registration, please contact the Camp Kerry office by email or phone.
Don’t always have time to attend a group, or interested in connecting with a broader compassionate community? Email us for an invitation to become a member of our private online social network (there are no dues or fees for membership). Participants have access to groups, forums, chat, and more.
