Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction

The Camp Kerry Society is pleased to be offering our Mindfulness Program in partnership with Douglas College. This Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction course, based on the program developed by Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, runs over 8 weeks, and offers guided mindfulness meditation practice.

The course is taught by Camp Kerry Team member, Anne Walker, who has worked in the health care field as a hospice/palliative/oncology care Social Worker for over 20 years. Creating safety, building resilience and holding possibility are important to her as well as compassion, laughter and mutual adventure in learning.

So many of us struggle to find time in our lives for self-care. We have too much to do and not enough time to do it. We have deadlines and multiple competing priorities for our attention. On top of these daily challenges some of us face deeper challenges that are largely out of our control. Health challenges – our own or those of someone we love. Mental health challenges; such as coping with anxiety or with grief and loss. When there are many demands on us it is easy to get overwhelmed by stress or to get lost in our own thoughts and miss out on what really matters in our lives. Practicing Mindfulness – “paying attention, on purpose, in the present moment, without judging” – can help us manage stress, regain our energy and our clarity of thought and intention.

Payment of the $350 tuition fee is due at the time of registration. We have a limited number of subsidies available for those on a fixed or limited income, please call the Camp Kerry office at 604-553-4663 to discuss your situation.

Spring is a time for transformation and renewal. The beauty of nature is emerging all around us, but in our busy lives we don’t always take time to stop and smell the flowers. Give yourself the gift of self-care. This workshop will provide participants with a safe space in which to learn and experience Mindfulness practices including; periods of silence and meditation interspersed with mindful walking, gentle stretching, music-based relaxation, and reflective art processes.

No prior experience in these modalities is required to register.

This retreat will be lead by Anne Walker, a credited Social Worker and experienced Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction Instructor, along with members of the Camp Kerry counselling team.

This fall, the mindfulness class will be offered for an eight-week session on Wednesdays, Oct 16 – Dec 4, 2019 in the evenings at Douglas College in Coquitlam with a full day retreat on Nov 23. Registration is not open at this time for these classes, so check back soon or contact our office for details.
